The Dutch Chocolate Bar

Dutch chocolate as a gift or souvenir

Almost everyone who walks in is buying for somebody else, so this is the guide we get asked for most often at the counter.

What travels and what does not

A sealed chocolate bar is the most robust edible souvenir there is. It does not crumble like a loose stroopwafel, it does not leak like syrup, and it is not confiscated at any border inside Europe. The one enemy is heat: a bar left in a car in July comes home as a puddle with a wrapper. Keep it in hand luggage rather than a hot boot.

What to pick for whom

For someone who has never been to the Netherlands, the stroopwafel bar, every time. It carries the story with it and needs no explanation beyond the name.

For a colleague or a household, the combi deal: one of each flavour, so nobody has to be diplomatic about a preference.

For a person who says they do not like sweet things, the almond paste bar. It is the least sugary of the three and the one that changes minds.

Practical things

The bars are scored into cubes, so a single bar works as a shared gift for a whole office. Each is a large slab rather than a thin bar, so it looks like more than it costs.

Check the allergens before you buy for someone else, particularly the peanut bar. Everything is listed on what is in our chocolate.

Sending instead of carrying

If the gift is not going in your bag, order it from the web shop and have it delivered in the Netherlands. See order Dutch chocolate online.

For a larger or custom order, for an event or a company gift, mail us and we will work it out with you.
