In the shop

All the bars, in detail

The one you cannot order online

A giant stroopwafel, half dipped in our chocolate, finished in front of you.

The bars travel. This one does not. A stroopwafel the size of your hand goes half into the same milk chocolate we fill the bars with, and then you point at one of five jars on the counter. It leaves in red checked paper with a gold seal, which is a polite way of saying it is meant to be eaten on the street.

Five labelled jars of toppings on the counter, marshmallow, caramel fudge, smarties, Biscoff speculoos and Oreo crumbs, with gold scoops, above a tray of finished chocolate stroopwafels
The topping bar: five jars, gold scoops, and a tray of stroopwafels waiting to be finished

Point at one of these

  • A chocolate-dipped giant stroopwafel covered in coloured chocolate beans

    Smarties

Coloured chocolate beans, the one children point at

  • A chocolate-dipped giant stroopwafel covered in crumbled Biscoff speculoos biscuit

    Biscoff speculoos

Crumbled spiced biscuit, the most Dutch answer of the five

  • A chocolate-dipped giant stroopwafel covered in soft caramel fudge cubes

    Caramel fudge

Soft caramel cubes, the syrup of the wafel arriving twice

  • A chocolate-dipped giant stroopwafel covered in dark Oreo cookie crumbs

    Oreo crumbs

Dark cookie crumb against the caramel of the wafer

  • A chocolate-dipped giant stroopwafel covered in pastel mini marshmallows

    Marshmallow

Pastel mini marshmallows, the softest of the five

Nothing on it at all is also an answer.

How it works

A counter, not an experience. It takes about two minutes.

  1. Walk in and taste

Ask at the counter and you get a piece of whichever bar you point at. Most people try all three before deciding.

  2. Pick your bar

Stroopwafel for the caramel and the crunch, peanut butter for the salt, almond paste for the mild one. Or take one of each.

  3. Take it home, or have it sent

A sealed bar survives a suitcase without a scratch. Cannot carry it? The web shop delivers in the Netherlands.

Questions

The ten we get asked most at the counter.

Where is The Dutch Chocolate Bar?

On the Heiligeweg at number 20H, on the corner of the Voetboogstraat, in the centre of Amsterdam. That is a minute from the Kalverstraat, three from the flower market and thirty seconds from the Koningsplein tram stop.

Learn more: A chocolate shop by the Kalverstraat

What are your opening hours?

The shop is open every day. The current hours per day are listed on the home page and in the shop window, and they are the version to trust.

Which flavours do you have?

Three filled milk chocolate bars: stroopwafel, peanut butter and almond paste. There is also a combi deal with one of each, and the shop sells stroopwafel cookies over the counter.

Can I taste before I buy?

Yes. Ask at the counter and you get a piece of whichever bar you point at, at no cost. Most people end up trying all three before deciding.

Learn more: Taste before you buy

Are your chocolate bars gluten free?

No. All three bars contain wheat, because the fillings are built on waffle and baked ingredients. We say so plainly rather than let anyone find out afterwards.

Learn more: What is in our chocolate

Do the bars contain nuts or peanuts?

The peanut butter bar contains peanuts and the almond paste bar contains almonds. All bars carry a "may contain traces of nuts" warning, so with a severe allergy this is not the right product.

Do you sell stroopwafels as well as chocolate?

Yes, and they are worth the detour on their own. A giant stroopwafel is half dipped in our milk chocolate and then finished in front of you with one of five toppings: smarties, Biscoff speculoos, caramel fudge, Oreo crumbs or marshmallow. You can also have it plain. It is a counter item, so it is not in the web shop.

Can I order a gift or a custom order for an event?

Yes. For an event, a wedding or a company gift, mail us and we will put it together with you rather than have you guess at a checkout screen.

Do you ship internationally?

Not yet. The web shop delivers within the Netherlands. A sealed bar travels perfectly well in hand luggage, so from abroad the practical route is to buy it here and take it with you.

How long does delivery take?

Delivery times and shipping costs are shown in the web shop at checkout, which is the only place they are guaranteed to be current.
