The Dutch Chocolate Bar

Taste before you buy

The most mentioned thing in our reviews is not a flavour, it is the fact that you get to try one first. Here is how that works.

How it works

Walk in, say hello, and ask. You will be handed a piece of whichever bar you point at, and in practice most people end up trying all three. There is no fee, no booking and no tour. It is a counter, not an experience.

One visitor summed the visit up on Google: "What a lovely, sensational and great experience to visit and taste the Dutch Chocolate Bars."

What to try first

Start with the almond paste. It is the mildest, so it does not flatten the two after it. Then the stroopwafel, for the caramel and the crunch. Finish with the peanut butter, which is the saltiest and the loudest, and will drown out anything tasted after it.

When to come

The counter is quietest on weekday mornings, which is when there is time for an actual conversation about what goes into the bars. Weekend afternoons in the centre are busy for every shop on this street, ours included.

Then what

Buy the winner, or take the combi deal and settle it at home. If you are buying for other people, Dutch chocolate as a gift has the recommendations, and check what is in our chocolate if allergies are in play.

Come and taste, or have it delivered

The counter is open every day on the Heiligeweg. If you cannot get there, the web shop delivers in the Netherlands.
